Bio

My name is Faraz Farzad and I am a 2nd year medical student, studying towards (hopefully one day) becoming a physician. I'm originally from Fairfax, about a 2 hour drive north from here, but I also completed my undergraduate studies here so UVA has been home for the past 6 years (Go Hoos!).

Q&A with Faraz

What brought you to the Range?

I knew a bunch of people who lived on the Lawn/Range, and I spent a good amount of time at events hosted in the Lawn/Range rooms during undergrad. When I was an undergraduate student, I would always see the upperclassmen opening up their rooms for the community to use, and I loved this. I also always thought the idea of living in a small, tight-knit community of your peers was cool, so I applied and the rest is history.

What are some of your favorite things about the Range?

The people are undoubtedly the best part. You are basically thrown into a community of complete strangers, but become so close so quickly. Also, I absolutely love the fireplace and I try to use it as often as I can.

What do you like to do for fun? Interests, hobbies, etc.

Although I haven't been able to play as much as I would like due to COVID, I love to play basketball in my free time. I also love to hike and I usually try to find any and every excuse to be outdoors. Most importantly, I absolutely love spending time with my family and friends whenever I can.

What’s something unique about the Range that you may not find elsewhere?

Over the past 2 years that I have been on the Range, the sense of community has been unbeatable. Everyone is so kind, generous, and just overall a great neighbor. Also, I think it's pretty cool to live on a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you are surrounded by so much unique and rich history.

Who should apply to live on the Range?

If you want to find a community of peers who are going through the same academic challenges as you, but who also love to have a good time when they can, you should definitely apply. Also, if the thought of leaving your room to use the bathroom at 2am doesn't phase you (it's really reeaaally not that bad), this is the place for you!
